IT
AVENGER
In the war of man against
computers, the computers were winning. Cries
of pain would come from the server
room as crash after crash rendered
the system slower than molasses on
a November morning in Kentucky.
Accounting couldn’t
bill. Purchasing couldn’t
purchase. People in Marketing
couldn’t check their Fantasy
Football stats.
Not only was the system
not working, neither were the attempts
by a particular Tech to hide from the
multitudes who beat on his door, sent
him emails, and left snippy voice mails
complaining about how the system was
working. Or wasn’t working.
Our Tech began to feel
like the Celery character in The Flaming
Rutabaga, Issue No. 22, when everything
fell down around him and Country Ham
was about to receive his Crown of Tacos. Ah,
yes. You remember that fateful
moment, don’t you?
But in the nick of
time a solution came forth, an HMS
Hospital Information Solution, to be
specific. Just as his complexion
cleared up when he turned 19, so did
the problems with the system. And
all those belligerent bytes turned
meek and tame.
Suddenly, this one
particular Tech was no longer the go-to
guy when things needed fixing. He
was different. He was confident. He
was the IT Avenger.
Warp speed? Phfft! His
system flew at lightning speed. Nano
speed. Nano speed to the infinity
power, even. Things that were
supposed to work actually worked. The
1s and 0s lined up.
There was calm in the
hospital and serenity in the server
room.
Strengths:
•
Is now on a first name basis with the
CFO since eliminating costly interfaces
•
His near elimination of unplanned downtime
brought tears of joy to hospital staff
• His system has never been breached or infected by a virus
•
No longer runs floor to floor installing
software and fixing computers thanks
to HMS’ Desktop applications
hosting option
Weaknesses: Eyesight. Attention
span.
